My long friendship with Paul

Created by Tony 8 years ago

I was privileged to know Paul as a special friend for over 60 years, from when he moved to South Lincolnshire and we found ourselves in the 6th form at school. We had great times playing in the same cricket team, and going to soccer matches with his father - an Anglican clergyman. He was best man when I married Judy in 1962, and present was a charming young Swedish lady, Anne-Christine, who became Paul's wife.

Later after a spell in the west country we found ourselves living near Paul in Stamford. By then, he was head of the Malcolm Sargent School, and our son Tim became a pupil at this excellent school. I also remember a delightful evening and supper at Paul's Oakham home. Apart from the lovely meal provided by Anne-Christine, we were also introduced to their new baby daughter Camilla.

Paul was a fine person and I never remember a cross word! I liked his sense of humour, and we saw a lot of issues along similar lines. Of course I am sorry that his last years were affected by the death of Anne-Christine and his own ill health.

It has been a great privilege to have known such a fine person so well. My wife shares these sentiments.
