I remember Paul as a friend who did much to help me adjust to my new circumstances as a student at Culham where we trained as teachers. He exemplified the very best in Culham's "College Brother" tradition, in which a senior student would welcome a newcomer and introduce him to the routines of college life. Paul was a very wise young man and a good, steadying influence. I learned much from him about attitudes towards fellow students and people in general. As my College Brother he did a great job of making me feel at home.
Shortly after leaving Culham I spent a couple of weeks or so hitch-hiking and looked in on some old Culham pals. Paul's folks very kindly insisted on putting me up. So, rather than the B&B / Youth Hostel I was contemplating, I had a very welcoming overnight in a vast bedroom in Sutton Bridge Rectory.
I have Paul to thank for fostering in me the unique Culham Spirit which every Culhamite remembers with great fondness.
